Jones Crisps, Halen Mon Sea Salt & Vinegar
PRODUCT DETAILS
Jones Crisps Halen Môn Sea Salt and Vinegar is a hand cooked potato crisp from the Welsh producer Jones o Gymru, seasoned with Halen Môn, the PDO-protected Anglesey Sea Salt harvested from the waters of the Menai Strait. It was one of the three original flavours the company launched with in 2011, alongside Halen Môn salted and Welsh mature cheese and onion, and it remains one of the best known items in the range thanks to the pairing of two well-regarded Welsh food producers on a single bag.
Jones o Gymru was founded in 2011 and is based in Pwllheli on the Llŷn Peninsula, having grown out of earlier trials of blight-resistant potato varieties. It is the only UK crisp manufacturer owned by a Welsh-based company, and the potatoes used are 100% British grown, sourced from Anglesey, Pembrokeshire, or Monmouthshire depending on the time of year. From the outset, the company built its flavours around genuine Welsh ingredients rather than generic seasonings, and the tie-in with Halen Môn, a long-established Anglesey sea salt producer with Protected Designation of Origin status, was central to that approach and to the identity of the brand as a whole.
Each crisp is hand cooked in high oleic sunflower oil, giving a thicker, more textured bite than the thin, uniform crisps typical of larger industrial brands. The sea salt and vinegar seasoning follows the familiar formula of a sharp, tangy vinegar hit balanced against a clean, mineral salt note, with Halen Môn's natural harvesting method giving the salt a slightly different character to standard table salt, being less processed and drawing directly on Menai Strait seawater. The result is a classic salt and vinegar crisp with a distinctly Welsh point of difference in its seasoning.
Sea salt and vinegar crisps are one of the most versatile bar snacks going, pairing naturally with crisp lagers, pale ales, and ciders, where the acidity of the vinegar cuts through and refreshes the palate between sips. They also work well served as part of a wider snack selection alongside pork pies, sausage rolls, or a ploughman's board, and are a straightforward addition to a picnic or packed lunch. The bag size makes it easy to stock multiples for gatherings or to sell as a single grab-and-go item.
For anyone stocking a genuinely Welsh snack selection, Jones Crisps Halen Môn Sea Salt and Vinegar brings together two established, independently minded Welsh producers in a single product. It reflects the founding approach of Jones o Gymru: build a straightforward, well-made crisp around honest, traceable Welsh ingredients rather than mass-market flavourings.
