Penderyn - Siddiqui White Rum

Penderyn Siddiqui White Rum is an unaged rum produced at Penderyn Distillery in Wales, in partnership with the Californian founded Siddiqui Rums brand. Bottled at 40% ABV, it is described by its makers as sweet, smooth and very drinkable, and is intended primarily as a versatile base for cocktails rather than a spirit for sipping neat.

Penderyn Distillery was founded by the Welsh Whisky Company in 1998 and produced its first spirit in September 2000, at its site in the Brecon Beacons National Park, chosen for its natural spring water supply. While best known for single malt Welsh whisky made using a single copper pot still, Penderyn has expanded into other spirits categories over the years, including this rum, produced under licence for Siddiqui Rums to supply markets outside the United States. The Siddiqui name has its roots in the Middle Eastern oil industry of the early 1950s, when a ban on imported alcohol led expatriate oil workers to distil their own spirit at home using improvised stills, taking the Arabic word for my friend as the name for their moonshine.

As a white rum, Siddiqui White is unaged, or aged only briefly, and filtered to remove colour, giving it a clean, clear appearance. This style of rum is typically light in body with a straightforward sweetness and a gentler flavour profile than darker, cask aged rums, making it a natural fit for cocktails where a clean spirit base is wanted rather than the deeper oak and caramel notes of an aged rum. Its 40% ABV keeps it in line with standard rum strength for classic and contemporary rum cocktails alike.

Siddiqui White Rum is well suited to classic white rum cocktails such as a Mojito, Daiquiri or Pina Colada, where its clean sweetness allows citrus, mint or fruit flavours to come through clearly. It also works simply with cola or ginger beer over ice for a straightforward long drink. Its light character makes it a practical choice for home bartenders who want a reliable, food friendly white rum without strong competing flavours of its own.

As the lighter partner to Penderyn's Siddiqui Brown Rum, this white rum reflects the same unusual brand history while offering an entirely different drinking experience, better suited to mixing than to sipping. It stands as an interesting example of a Welsh distillery's work outside its whisky range.
