Antur - New England IPA - 440ml
PRODUCT DETAILS
Antur New England IPA is a 440ml hazy IPA brewed at 5.8% ABV by Antur Brew Co in Crickhowell, Powys, on the northern edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. New England IPA, often shortened to NEIPA, is a modern American-inspired style known for its soft, hazy appearance, low perceived bitterness, and heavy use of late and dry hopping to maximise fruit and aroma character over sharp, bitter edge, and Antur's version follows that template closely while being brewed with a distinctly Welsh sense of place.
Antur Brew Co was set up during the pandemic by Lance van Dijk, who drew on experience gained at several established ale and lager specialist breweries before founding his own operation, with the brewery opening its doors in 2022. The name Antur means adventure in Welsh, a reference both to the brewery's National Park setting and to its willingness to take on newer, more experimental styles such as New England IPA alongside more traditional beers like its Helles Lager and Altbier. This spread across classic and contemporary styles has helped the brewery build a reputation for range as well as quality within a relatively short time.
New England IPA is heavily dry hopped with American hop varieties, giving fruity, mango, and tropical aromas that dominate the nose well before the beer is tasted. A complex multi-grain malt base, often including wheat and oats alongside barley, gives the beer a fuller body and the soft, juicy mouthfeel the style is known for, while suspended hop oils and proteins contribute to its characteristic haze. Despite the fruit-forward profile, the beer finishes with only a medium bitterness, keeping it clean and drinkable rather than sharply bitter, which is part of what distinguishes the New England style from more traditional West Coast IPAs.
Serve Antur New England IPA cold in a tulip or IPA-specific glass to help concentrate its tropical hop aroma, and give it a gentle swirl before drinking to release the full range of fruit notes. Its juicy, fruit-forward character pairs well with spicy food such as Thai or Mexican dishes, as well as with grilled fish, tacos, and soft, creamy cheeses that can stand up to its fuller body without being overwhelmed.
For drinkers who enjoy the hazy, hop-forward style that has come to define much of modern craft brewing, Antur New England IPA offers a well-made Welsh example, brewed with a full complement of American hops and a soft, juicy body from a small, adventurous brewery in the Brecon Beacons.
